Dew Tour Inspires Summit County Colorado

Where else than in the Colorado Rocky Mountain communities of Summit County Colorado can residents mosey over to the world-renowned events taking place during the Dew Tour?  The ability to rub elbows with the best free skiers and snowboarders in the world is one advantage of owning homes in Breckenridge.  Last week’s Dew Tour was a memorable athletic competition, part of the official Olympic selection events.

Several competitors are at home in Breckenridge and Summit County Colorado.  Bobby Brown, Anna Segel, Eric Willlett, James Woods, Zach Black, and Kari Herman are among them.

During the Dew Tour iON Mountain Championships December 12-15, 2013, spectators gathered around the base of Peak 8 to enjoy the excitement.  Practices and the following events took place:

  • Men’s/Women’s Ski Superpipe
  • Men’s/Women’s Ski Slopestyle
  • Men’s/Women’s Snowboard Superpipe
  • Men’s/Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle
  • Nike Snowboarding Streetstyle

A young freeskier from Indiana won the Dew Tour iON Mountain Championships ski slopestyle.  Nick Goepper is the reigning champion for the Winter X Games.  A Canadian took second and an Australian third.  All three men are competing to make the United States Olympic free skiing team.

The streetstyle event was held under the lights on Friday night in downtown Breckenridge.  In addition to the live events, the week included a lifestyle Festival with live music.  At the Do Tour Experience, fans ask for autographs from the athletes, played games, and enjoyed themselves.

The events come to Summit County Colorado as the first and second of five Olympic selection events for snowboarding and free skiing.  Dew Tour began in Breckenridge and moved this week to Copper Mountain Ski Resort.  Olympic rosters are scheduled to be announced on January 22, 2014.  Overall standings are determined by the two best results of individual athletes during the selection process.  A maximum of four athletes per event may be selected.
